On March 19, our DP2 Visual Arts students transformed the theatre into a world of shadows, stories, symbols, and imagination. We couldn’t share these photos at the time due to the confidentiality requirements of the IB Visual Arts assessment process, but now that the exams are complete, we’re excited to revisit one of the highlights of the school year.

Titled Darkling, after a word used by John Keats to describe something existing in darkness rather than light, the exhibition invited visitors into a space that was thoughtful, mysterious, and deeply personal. Rather than celebrating the bright and obvious, the artworks explored what is hidden, fleeting, imagined, or difficult to express.

The four exhibiting artists – Amaira, Yifan, Yurii, and Zofia – each followed their own artistic path. Their work explored themes of identity, vanitas and mortality, fantasy and mythical creatures, and personal symbolism developed through narrative manga-inspired imagery. Together, they created an exhibition that was both visually striking and conceptually rich.

From immersive installations and dramatic sculptures to intricate drawings and paintings, Darkling showcased not only artistic skill but also the courage to ask questions, take risks, and share personal perspectives with an audience.

For our students, this exhibition marked the culmination of two years of creative inquiry. For visitors, it was an opportunity to step into four unique worlds and experience the ideas, emotions, and stories that shaped them.

Now, a few months later, we’re delighted to share some memories from this unforgettable evening.

Enjoy these snapshots from Darkling.
