During chemistry class, students put… spinach under the microscope!

Using 50 g of plant material, they extracted chlorophylls and xanthophylls, working with ethanol and hexane. There was some grinding, some filtration, and plenty of patience while watching the green “mash” slowly separate into different pigment fractions.

Not everything went perfectly (as it often happens in the lab), but that’s exactly what science is about – testing, improving, and drawing conclusions.

Because the best moment is when the theory from the textbook suddenly becomes visible in a test tube 🧪👀
